There are shady hammocks hanging from palms and tamarindo trees as well as private patios for each of the accomodations. The villas share an infiniti swimming pool and an open air billiards pavillion.
Sendas del Mar is near the village of Barra de Potosi, a traditional Mexican fishing village of three unpaved streets and fewer than 500 residents. Our local managers, Tito and his wife Carmen, live on site with their two children and provide personal service in the warm Mexican tradition. All caretaker and housekeeper services are included in your rental.
Guests enjoy the proximity to the waves and s unsets and walking the empty beach or swimming in the gentle waves and warm water. The area is famous for it's surfing in the summer and relaxing beach life in the winter. From the village, Playa Blanca stretches north for nine miles in a shallow bay ringed by pure sand beach. The beach has a smattering of vacation homes, a few B and B's and restaurants, and the homes of locals, but by tourist standards it is largely undeveloped and remains very simple, peaceful and laidback. The village sits at the mouth of a large lagoon ringed by mangroves that provides the launching area for the small open fishing boats that the local men take out everyday to handline red snapper or net sardines and other fish.
Bicycles, boogie boards, kayaks and snorkel equipment are available along with aneclectic library and a collection of games. A small orchard of tropical fruit trees also is underway and provides extra interest for local butterflies and birds. In the village, there are a number of small shops selling basic food supplies, beer and soft drinks. Vendors selling fruit, vegetables, fish and tortillas also ply the beach road several times a week. The closest big supermarket is in Zihuatanejo. If you want to do more serious provisioning, a taxi ride to town can bearranged.
Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa also feature many top flight restaurants. There are a dozen outdoor seafood restaurants on the beach within a few minutes walk of Sendas. They are open from breakfast until early evening. In the nearby village of Barra de Potosi, there also are several night time restaurants specializing in tacos and simple local fare. During the winter season, other fancier restaurants open along the beach road.
Ixtapa boasts two 18 hole public golf courses including Palma Real designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. A trip to Ixtapa also offers the opportunity for an eco-tour and the Dolfinarium where you can swim with dolphins. Both Zihuatanejo and Ixtapa offer extensive nightlife bars and restaurants. If surfing is your sport, there are various day trip opportunities including the Ranch, Troncones, Playa Linda and Saladita.
Near Barra de Potosi there is an archeological site, a pristine lagoon and miles of completely primal beach. Below is a list of tours and activities that our staff can help arrange. You can book activities in advance if you wish, but our recommendation is to come, look around and then decide how best to spend your time. The new wildlife sanctuary, El Refugio de Potosi, is a five minute ride away. But you won't have to leave the property to see lots of nature. This website -- http://71thingstoseeatplayablanca.blogspot.com/ -- 71 Things To See At Playa Blanca will give you an idea of some of the birds, plants and butterflies in the area. If your timing is lucky you could see humpback whales breaching just offshore or get to release sea turtle hatchlings at sunset.
